MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion in challenging circumstances according to policies, procedures, and training. Presents a professional and approachable demeanor, inspiring confidence in patients, visitors, and team members. Complies with and enforces all safety and security rules and regulations.
• Performs routine responsibilities during patrols to ensure safety and security, including inspections to identify vulnerabilities, audits of Interim Life Safety Measures, patient valuables management, and contraband searches. Assists team members, patients, and visitors by providing information, directions, and physical help.
• Prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence. Responds to service calls for combative or threatening incidents and serves as a primary resource for de-escalation.
• Plans, prevents, practices, and responds to emergencies such as lost or abducted infants/children, fire, and active threats. Physically intervenes in situations with potential for injury.
• Investigates incidents on property, completing timely and accurate reports, and addressing complaints appropriately.
• Performs liaison rounding duties to cultivate partnerships with departments, delivering security awareness education to team members.
• Liaisons with law enforcement and first responder agencies, ensuring policy compliance during prisoner patient transports.
• Maintains training standards in radio communications, CPR, stabilization, and use of department-issued equipment.

License/Registration/Certification Required:

• Healthcare Security Certification (CHSO) and a valid driver’s license.
• Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card or Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license.
• Certification in Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) use.

Education Required: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience in security or customer service with emergent situations and risk resolution is typically required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Completion of State of Illinois 20-hour Basic Security Officer course.
• Ability to maintain a courteous demeanor in aggressive situations.
• Experience in assessing dangerous situations quickly and taking appropriate action.
• Communication skills and ability to document work using a computer.
• Must pass background investigation and drug screen.
• Ability to defend and physically restrain individuals if necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

• Must sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday, lifting up to 35 lbs. occasionally.
• Vision correctable to 20/20 required, with potential exposure to various hazards.
• Frequent exposure to aggressive behavior and emotionally charged situations.
• Must be physically fit to walk facilities and assist with patient lifting.
