Job Description

Chesapeake Search Partners is partnering with our client in the education industry, to identify a Controller to join their growing organization. In this role as Controller, you’ll take charge of essential financial activities such as managing monthly close processes, overseeing cash flow, preparing financial reports, and leading the accounting team. You’ll collaborate with the CFO to advance key strategic goals, ensure successful audits and tax filings, and play a pivotal role in building financial systems that scale with the business.

*this position requires you to be onsite 1 day a week in Columbia, MD.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead monthly close processes and perform reconciliations across key accounts
  • Supervise and ensure timely processing of invoices, accounts payable/receivable, expense reports, and revenue recognition
  • Monitor and manage cash flow activities, including daily cash positioning and reconciliations
  • Prepare and reconcile general ledger entries and monthly bank statements
  • Analyze and report on revenue trends, bookings, and financial performance metrics
  • Coordinate with insurance providers to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Generate and present comprehensive month-end financial reports
  • Mentor and oversee day-to-day activities of accounting staff
  • Assist the CFO in compiling financial data for external audits and tax filings
  • Support the CFO in monthly, quarterly, and annual closings

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA or CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting, including financial reporting, analysis, and month-end close responsibilities
  • Proven proficiency in QuickBooks Online; experience with additional financial systems is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with discretion and integrity
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues
  • Creative and strategic thinker who understands the role of finance in driving business growth
