Role Summary

Our client is a chemical manufacturer based in Cincinnati Ohio, and is looking to bring on a Commodity Risk Manager to lead efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate risks tied to raw material procurement and commodity price volatility within the natural oils and fats sector. This role demands expertise in market dynamics, risk management tools, and strategic hedging to support procurement optimization and protect company margins.

Key Responsibilities

• Continuously analyze global commodity markets related to natural oils, fats, and related feedstocks to evaluate price trends and supply chain vulnerabilities.
• Develop and execute risk mitigation strategies, including hedging via futures and options, and supplier risk diversification.
• Partner with procurement and commercial teams to refine sourcing approaches and negotiate agreements that balance cost and risk.
• Use financial models and market data to forecast price movements and assess their financial impact.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, sustainability guidelines, and ethical sourcing principles.
• Provide senior leadership with timely market intelligence, risk exposure reports, and strategic recommendations.
• Collaborate with commercial and supply chain functions on initiatives to preserve and enhance margin performance.
• Build and maintain robust relationships with suppliers and trading partners to secure supply stability and favorable contract terms.
• Support sales and leadership with market insights and customer communications regarding market conditions and outlooks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Supply Chain, or related discipline.
• Ideally a minimum of 5 years’ experience in agricultural commodity trading and risk management.
• Strong analytical and financial modeling skills with proven expertise in risk assessment.
• Familiarity with hedging strategies and commodity futures markets.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.

Preferred Experience

• Background in managing price risk for fats and oils or related agricultural commodity complexes.
• Experience within specialty chemical manufacturing or related sectors is advantageous.
• Knowledge of international trade regulations impacting fats, oils, and related commodities.
• Advanced qualifications such as MBA or CFA are a plus.
