Chief of Staff

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
We are looking for a Chief of Staff to join our leadership team and serve as a right hand to the CEO. We are undergoing a period of growth and transformation and we are looking to you to help get us to our next stage. You will be responsible for driving organizational effectiveness, strategic initiatives, and operational efficiency. You will serve as a key liaison between the executive team and our various departments and restaurants across multiple states. This role requires exceptional people leadership, trust, communication, and strategic thinking skills, as well as the ability to handle a wide range of responsibilities with discretion and professionalism. Detailed responsibilities include:
What You’ll Do : The Chief of Staff is responsible for partnering across the business to support the CEO’s goals, facilitating communication and alignment throughout the organization and managing projects from inception through execution and delivery. The Chief of Staff will also oversee the HR function. Essential functions:
- Human Resources
- Provide leadership and direction to the People & Culture (P&C) team, serving as a people manager and intermediary between the P&C Director and executive team on important issues and decisions.
- Translate organizational strategy into P&C strategy, including tactical execution of total rewards strategy, M&A strategy, and executive recruiting.
- Step in to provide support and direction to the P&C Director in complex matters such as long-term planning, acquisitions, and legal matters.
- Help define and uphold company culture, values, and leadership standards.
- Support key hiring decisions and executive onboarding as needed.
- You will inherit a team of 2 people and oversee the HR function.
- Strategic Planning & Execution
- Partner with executive leadership to shape and execute strategic initiatives such as
- Coordinate company-wide goal-setting, tracking, and reporting (e.g., OKRs, KPIs).
- Monitor progress on critical projects and ensure follow-through.
- Serve as thought partner for CEO, surfacing ideas and opportunities from the business to the C-suite.
- Executive Operations & Decision Support
- Prepare briefings, presentations, and materials for meetings with Rackson Leadership, Board of Directors, and key external stakeholders.
- Prepare weekly reports for the CEO, filtering information from across the organization to ensure his awareness of key happenings.
- Manage CEO’s calendar to optimize efficiency and time spent on organizational priorities.
- Lead and support special projects across the organization on behalf of the CEO.
- Surface insights, risks, and recommendations to support decision-making.
- Communication & Alignment
- Serve as a liaison between the CEO and internal/external stakeholders.
- Ensure key messages are communicated clearly and consistently across the organization.
- Facilitate regular leadership meetings, setting agendas and ensuring follow-ups.
- Serve as the voice of the CEO in meetings where he is absent, keeping meetings focused on priorities and relaying back key takeaways.
- Organizational Effectiveness
- Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, or misalignments and recommend solutions.
- Other duties as assigned.
What Will Make You Successful :
- 7+ years of experience in a fast-paced environment, ideally in consulting, strategy, operations, or as a former founder or senior operator.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, or related field required. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Strong business acumen with a track record of navigating ambiguity and driving results.
- Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills – a relationship builder with high emotional intelligence and sound judgment.
- Comfortable fighting for what you believe in and managing up. Able to influence employees at all levels in the organization.
- Entrepreneurial: you are a self starter, proactive and always act like an owner.
- Highly organized, with strong project management and prioritization skills. Comfortable working on tight timelines and juggling multiple priorities.
- Not afraid to jump in where needed - no task is too big or too small for you, and you are willing to help your team before you are asked.
- Comfortable operating at both a strategic and tactical level.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt in a fast-moving environment. Comfortable working within some ambiguity and shifting priorities as we grow.
- Analytical mindset: you analyze and synthesize complex issues, data and information.
- Experience building and leading teams, both internally and with third-party partners. Strong people and team leader that can help to build a culture of feedback, collaboration and high performance.
- Strong Microsoft suite mastery.
- Must be able to work in person at our office 4 days per week and travel up to 50%. Ability to work on-site in the markets where Rackson operates, including non-traditional hours on evenings and weekends as needed.
- Discretion to handle complex and sensitive matters appropriately and to work independently.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate via phone including hearing and talking. Ability to perform sedentary work such as computer-based work. Ability to utilize close visual acuity such as for creating and analyzing data/spreadsheets, word documents, and graphic designs. Ability to navigate from location to location and to work within a restaurant or on a construction job site, standing for up to six hours at a time.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or advanced degree in business, public administration, or related field preferred but not required.
- Prior experience as a Chief of Staff, Head of Operations, Chief Human Resources Officer, founder, general manager or similar role.
- Project management certification, such as PMP.
- Experience in restaurant and/or multi-site retail operations.
